Informacje o Kasie Stefczyka w Międzyborzu

W Międzyborzu, małym miasteczku słynącym z zabytkowego zamku książąt oleśnickich, obecnie nie znajduje się oddział Kasy Stefczyka. Throughout time, people have been interested in bees. The Ancient Egyptians wrote about them, and put drawings of them in their hieroglyphics. The Greeks wrote about bees too. Both the Egyptians and Greeks had noticed that inside every colony of honeybees, there is one bee that is bigger than the rest. They thought this bee was a male, or a king bee. But in 1670, a Dutch scientist called Jan Swammerdam looked at bees through a microscope, and found that this 'king' was actually a 'queen', and she laid all the eggs to produce the rest of the bees. Queen bees can lay around 2000 eggs a day. When the eggs hatch, they are called 'larvae'. Nurse bees look after them by feeding them special high-protein liquid called 'royal jelly', followed by a mixture of honey and bee pollen called 'bee bread'. After about five days, the larvae spin silk cocoons. After another ten days, the young bees emerge from their cocoons. Worker bees, which are sterile females, make up most of the bees in a colony. Young workers spend the first three weeks of their adult lives working in the hive, making honeycomb, and looking after the queen bee and the larvae. The honeycomb is made up of lots of hexagonal wax cells, which are used to store larvae, pollen and honey, and adult bees rest in empty cells. After three weeks, worker bees leave the hive and start to gather pollen and nectar from flowers. They collect nectar by sucking it up with their tubes, called proboscises, and collect pollen by rolling in it on flowers and getting it stuck to their hairy legs. When they return to their hive, they store the pollen and nectar in the honeycomb cells, and turn the nectar into honey. Worker bees only rarely lay eggs. When they do, their eggs are not fertilised, so they always develop into male bees (drones), never females. The queen bee's eggs develop into female worker bees if they are fertilised, and into male drones if they are not. Drones do not collect pollen or make honey, and their only job is to fertilise new queen bees so colonies can continue. In late summer, the female workers stop feeding the drones and drive them out of the nest to die. Worker bees dance to tell other bees where to find food. Karl von Frisch worked out how the dance language works, and wonAby skorzystać ze stacjonarnych usług banku w Międzyborzu, mieszkańcy muszą udać się do oddziałów w miastach: Kępno, Oleśnica, Ostrów Wielkopolski, Krotoszyn lub Kalisz.
